Internet marketing Hype

yesterday I was talking to an SEO expert and we have mutually arrived at the same conclusion about this whole internet marketing thing.

If you pay closer attention to what is happening and take a look on a little bigger scale of what is happening, you will clearly notice the never forgotten -get-rich-quick phenomenon in massive action. Online it translates into -get traffic or get rankings tomorrow dream. Everything starting from social media, search engine optimization, adwords, video marketing, blog marketing, social bookmarking is promising yet the same old get traffic tomorrow thing, get millions of clicks by the end of the day, in 4 hours, etc.

people buy it too. who wouldnt want that. Some people even create videos to show how “well” their clients did first week to jump on first page of google and (after I checked later) site dropped to page two and after I followed up with the “guru” by email – I havent received a reply.

This is just one example of what is going on every day out there.

The biggest realization for me on a much deeper level is a awareness of what internet marketing is. If you listen closely to the veterans, like Dan Kennedy, Ron Legrand, Jim Fleck – people who have been around the block several times, some of them build empires without even having or using email by choice. You will find an interesting correlation, in their opinions.

internet is just a medium. It is one way of reaching out to your clients and thats it. There are many other way, better or worse who knows. But there are.  some cost money some don’t, but internet seems to have this aura of being free advertising and everyone has fallen for it. Of course it is free, if you don’t count the amount of time you spend on it. Or the attention you put to it. Or the things you have to do, redo, add, modify, fix, when things are not working. Thats just reality.

and yet another even deeper thing that bothers me more is – a bubble that we’re creating. A bubble of this cheap, plagiarized, quote driven, attention seeking, fluff-type information.

how else are you going to explain article-spinning. When you write an article with the intent of creating more traffic and not for the purpose of creating important content that someone will truly benefit from. And you “spin” it- create another 50 different versions of the same fluff- style article, just so you get 50 more links and “trick” google so it doesn’t see it as duplicate content. What are you creating on the internet? Think about it?

And you are not alone. we all do it. What are we creating? Im dying to find out. how about you?
